Tee off Made Fun at the Chamber Golf Tournament

Tee off made fun

How often do you get to swing a golf club, and get rewarded if your ball hits someone? Well, that's going to be the case at the annual Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce golf tournament happening at The Redwoods golf course today (Thursday).

There are 144 golfers participating, including Township Mayor Jack Froese and outgoing Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender. They tee off on a designated hole (Peter is hole 15, Jack is hole 3, and where their ball lands, a bigger than life-sized cutout will be erected.

All golfers are then encouraged to hit the mayors - or at least the cutouts. If they do, their name is entered to win a pair of passes to golf Redwood again.

This is one of the many fun aspects of the annual Texas-scramble tournament that tees off at 11 a.m.

Even before tee-off, however, all golfers have a chance to win a gift basket from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley. Each player is given a ball, and the first putt into the hole wins.

It's a new, fun, and interesting way to kick off the day-long fundraising and networking event, said chamber event organizer Jaclyn Van Den Berg, who noted a barbecue and awards ceremony (emceed by none other than Jim McGregor) will once again follow the day on the course.

Now, speaking of chamber happenings, on a more serious note the business organization is holding its annual general meeting and election of officers next Tuesday, June 18, at Cascades Casino. Can't believe Angie Quaale's term as president is already over.

Stay tuned for a full list of the chamber's new board of directors next week.
