Assistant Superintendent

 Redwoods is currently seeking an educated, experienced, passionate and energetic Assistant Superintendent to help lead our Turf Care Maintenance Team and become an important member of our golf course management team. This salaried position is full time, year round and begins immediately.

Redwoods is a scenic public 18-hole championship golf course with a gorgeous backdrop of the coastal mountains. With a Ted Locke design, the course is a mix of open links style golf paired with the tree-lined fairways of a traditional west coast style. The course is split level and the dramatic elevation changes offers a stiff challenge to golfers of all abilities.



  • Formal education in Turfgrass Management or a minimum of 5 year’s experience in golf course maintenance
  • Thoroughly understands the game of golf and how it pertains to the set up and maintenance of the course
  • Strong knowledge of fertilizer and plant protection product applications and has a workingknowledge of  why these are applied
  • Exceptional ability to lead, develop and inspire a team of employees
  • Ability to foster and build a supportive work culture where employees feel motivated and valued
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to achieving excellence
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with Rainbird Irrigation is an asset
  • Experience in management
  • Has a valid Driver’s License
  • Has a valid BC Pesticide Applicator’s License or the ability to obtain one in short order



  • Schedule, delegate, and manage all daily duties of the golf course
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of the greens, tee, fairways, roughs and bunkers
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and scheduling of the Rainbird irrigation system
  • Lead, inspire and motivate the staff , both new and experienced, through training  as well as leading by example
  • Be an integral part of the Management Team and work closely with the Superintendent and course owner to achieve strategic objectives
  • Apply fertilizers and plant protection products in the absence of the Spraytech
  • Ensure records are up to date for fertilizer and pesticide application
  • Train new employees as well as train experienced employees to do new tasks
  • Ensure records are up to date for staff task and safety training
  • Recognize and diagnose early stages of disease on turf through daily checks of the course
  • Plan and supervise small drainage project installations
  • Monitor, and ensure that our high daily standards are met
